The lovely tea experts at Tea Pigs have kindly given me their Super Fruit tea to try. I say they are experts because their teas have won so many awards, including 13 gold awards from The Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Awards (The Food industry’s equivalent to the Oscars.)
The Super Fruit Tea is 100% natural, caffeine free, dairy free, gluten free, suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is an antioxidant. It is packed with hibiscus, elderberries, blackcurrants, cranberries and blueberries. The Super Fruit Tea stands out, among other brands because of the amount of hibiscus content. 49% compared with 7% of other tea mixes. If drank regularly hibiscus tea has a ridiculous amount of health benefits including: reducing cholesterol and blood pressure and protecting your body from liver disease and cancers.
The outer packaging of the tea is made from sustainable FSC cardboard, with vegetable ink and is 100% biodegradable. Tea Pigs newest packaging is now 100% plastic free, which I think is amazing and makes your cup of tea completely guilt free. The tea bags are made from mesh and have lots of room for the tea to infuse properly.
When I first opened the tea I was surprised with how the fruity scent seemed to pour out. Even my colleagues commented how punchy the smell was. However, if you’re a tea lover like me you will be all too familiar with a tea which smells delicious but then disappoints with a watery taste. However, Tea Pigs have got it just right and keep those berries bursting from brewing to drinking.
Tea Pigs suggest you add boiling water and leave for 3-5 minutes. I left for 5 minutes as I love a full bodied, strong tea and it was perfect. I have also made it as an iced tea and put a tea bag in my water bottle infuser and each time it is absolutely delicious. The tea has a lovely tangy but refreshing taste, which is not too sweet, even though the scent is strong. The tea is made from real fruit, unlike other brands who use part fruits or dusting, meaning the taste is completely natural and not artificial.
If you’re looking for a natural, healthy and environmentally friendly tea, which you can enjoy in the summer evenings but also in the winter months due to the deep red hue, then this is it.
Let me know in the comments if you have discovered the amazing range from Tea Pigs.
